This is the quiet one. Where the other routes pack in sights, the Prokoško lake tour is about a single place and the time to enjoy it.
We leave Sarajevo and drive up Vranica mountain, through open country and then dense forest, to Prokoško lake at 1,636 metres. Traditional wooden huts and green meadows surround the water.
There is nothing to rush for once we arrive. Lunch is a picnic by the lake, made from fresh local produce and homemade food, and the rest is up to you. Keep an eye on the water for the triton — an amphibian that lives here and nowhere else, and part of what makes this lake special.
